ARCH collection
The local Association of Recreational Clubs for persons with disability (ARCH) Club holds its annual churchgate collection in the town and district this weekend (Saturday and Sunday), and the usual good support is sought.
In line for awards
Three local firms are among those shortlisted for Bord Bia’s National Horticultural Food Quality awards this year.
Dockrell’s Veg Farm, Glenbrien is among those bidding for glory in the Field Vegetables category; Eden Brand Potatoes is hoping for success in this category; while Green Hill Fruit Farm aims to win the Fruit category.
The awards are presented to growers who have demonstrated the highest competence in the different sectors, and winners will receive their prizes at a function in Dublin at Bord Bia headquarters next Tuesday March 30 – good luck to all!
Coffee time
* The home of John and Margaret Doyle, Templescoby, hosts a coffee day this Friday March 26 (9 a.m. – 6 p.m.) to raise funds for John’s involvement with Haven in its humanitarian relief work in Haiti. He is heading off to that beleaguered country later this year.
* Hope Cancer Support Centre’s Daffodil Day fundraising this Friday includes a coffee day at its Upper Weafer St. centre (10 a.m .3 p.m.), all proceeds going to the Irish Cancer Society.
* The Easter Coffee morning of St. Aidan’s parish will be held in the presbytery this Friday morning after the 10 a.m. Mass.
Creative Writing
This Thursday sees the launch of a three-week workshop on Creative Writing, hosted by the local library by facilitator Jim Maguire.
Anyone with an interest in any aspect of the writing craft is invited to take part on each Thursday (7 – 8.30 p.m.), but booking is advisable – contact the library at 053-9236055.
Mrs. Quin’s promotion
An Easter promotion at Mrs. Quin’s charity shop, Court St., involves customers’ names being entered into a draw with every €10 spent there, the prize being a fabulous meal for two in the Riverside Park Hotel.
Meanwhile, the shop welcomes donations of bric a brac, clothing, books, toys etc., which can be left at the shop.
Eugene Redmond Swim
Another reminder of this year’s Eugene Redmond Memorial Swim at Curracloe beach on Good Friday April 2 next, an event which attracts huge support. It has traditionally been held on St. Stephen’s Day, but due to poor weather and dangerous road conditions had to be postponed at the time.
Swimmers are asked to meet at the Winning Post premises at 11.30 a.m., and everyone then dipping into the sea at 12 noon.
Car boot sale
CWCW and Kilcannon Garden Centre’s car boot sale/Spring Fair takes place this Saturday March 27 at Community Workshop grounds (10 a.m. – 2 p.m.), for which all donations welcome – toys, books, small household items, clothes etc.
These can be left at either premises, or collection of same can be arranged.
The event will also have an area for the general public to sell their wares, with all profit going to a charity of their choice – it’s €15 per area. Prebooking and all info from Carmel tel. 086-0748300.
Table quiz
* Local man David Tyrrell (25), Greenville Road, is Africa-bound to take part in humanitarian work, and is endeavouring to raise funds locally to help the cause. He’s enlisted with Global Vision Ireland, and will work in teaching and construction work when he goes there later in the year. His next fundraiser is a night of good fun on April 1 in the Riverside Park Hotel (bar area), starting with a table quiz at 8.30 p.m. (€10 for team of four) and followed by chest/back/leg waxing session and also ‘live’ music, with plenty of spot prizes. Your support will be greatly appreciated.
* A table quiz in aid of Enniscorthy Special Olympics committee takes place in Coleman’s premises, Market Sq., on Wednesday next March 31, starting 8.30 p.m. It’s €20 for team of four, and there will be a raffle on the night.
Movie show helps sport
Enniscorthy Rugby and Hockey clubs combine to host the only showing in town of the Oscar-winning movie ‘Invictus’, starring Morgan Freeman as Nelson Mandela, and Matt Damon as South African rugby captain Francois Piennar, in a film telling how that nation’s victory in the Rugby World Cup was part of the healing process in the nation.
The screening is on Holy Thursday April 1 at the Slaney Plaza cinema, Templeshannon, commencing at 7.15 p.m. sharp, followed immediately after movie show by a reception and South African-style barbecue in the nearby D Bar at 9.15 p.m.
All funds will go towards installation of new match floodlights the Ross Road club’s grounds, as well as a portion to help the u-17s tour of Wales in May – the u-17s captured the Leinster Premier league title and are still in the All-Ireland series and Leinster cup.
Help St. Senan’s school
St. Senan’s primary school’s Autism Unit will benefit from all funds raised in the five-and-a-half mile run/walk on Saturday April 3 next, start/finish of which is opposite Vinnie’s Pub at Island Road car-park.

Childcare registration
St. Anne’s Childcare Centre at Templeshannon CDP will hold a registration day between Wednesday March 24 – Friday 26th (inclusive).
If you would like to enrol children between 2 4 years and would like them to attend Toddler or Pre-School service, you are invited to attended on any of these days between 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Reduced childcare rates are available under the Community Childcare Subvention scheme, which provides assistance for families in receipt of a range of social welfare payments.

Donna Marie in concert
The multi-talented Donna Marie (Sludds) and her Band will be on stage in the Riverside Park Hotel on Thursday night April 8 next, and a night of great music is promised from the All-Ireland Talent Show finalist and her musical friends.
Adm. is €10 and the show starts at 9 p.m.

PJ Gallagher at The Bailey
The star of RTE’s Naked Camera, PJ Gallagher, takes to the stage at the Enniscorthy Comedy Club on Friday April 23rd, 9p.m.
PJ has become one of Ireland’s best-loved comedians following the huge success of his role as Jake Stevens and many others in the hilarious and sometimes outrageous hit TV show Naked Camera.
PJ Gallagher is a Vicar Street regular and has appeared at the Cat Laughs festival in Kilkenny for the last five years.

Athenaeum Celebrity Wannabe
On April 4th in Bellefield GAA complex the Athenaeum Restoration Fund celebrity Wannabe, Matthew Hyland as James Taylor takes to the stage for a real Easter Sunday treat.
Proceedings start at 8p.m. Entertainment par excellence, including Joe Dolan tribute and Jo 90 Disco.
And finally …
The parish mission in St. Aidan’s and St. Senan’s parishes got under way at the weekend, and continues up to this Saturday morning with Mass of Healing in both churches at 11.30 a.m.
A combined effort promoted by the two parishes, a joint session by the two will see the holding of a special Youth Service in St. Aidan’s Cathedral this Thursday night at 9.30 p.m.
