And finally ...
Yet another review, yet more plaudits. They keep rolling in for Colm Tóibín and ‘Brooklyn’, now on sale in paperback form.
According to the week-end’s ‘Sunday Times’, the ‘elating and brilliant’ book .... loses none of the unillusioned lucidity of his earlier work but adds a fresh dimension of humane warmth.’
As if that wasn’t praise enough, reviewer Peter Kemp noted, ‘The novel places Eilís (the book’s central character) between the challenges of the new and the temptations of the familiar, until her predicament is resolved by a masterstroke of plotting.
The result is a novel that stands out as remarkable, even among Ireland’s distinguished roll of fiction about home and exile.
