Family fun at the heart of Festival
WITH THE Market House Craft and Design Festival set to begin tomorrow evening, visitors and locals alike are anticipating a fun-packed weekend.
The programme of events for this year’s festival has been published with programmes available from the Tourist Office and retail outlets all over North Wexford. The festival will be officially opened tomorrow evening by Cathaoirleach of Gorey Town Council, Robbie Ireton.
He will open the festival showcase exhibition at 7p.m. in the new Gorey Court House in the Civic Square.
The festival organisers have centred the weekend’s festivities around craft and design in the hope they will create a unique experience for those attending the event. As well as the craft side of the festival, there will be a lot of live music on the streets throughout the weekend and the festival will have a family focus.
A spokesperson said: “We wanted to inject some pure craic into the festival for all the family on the Saturday, there is a kids’ fun day in the new Civic Square on the Avenue. This is the first time the Square will be open to the public and the day promises everything from messy crafts and face-painting to rock climbing and soccer skills.”
They are hoping to hold a rubber duck race in the squares water feature and also present will be the team from the Irish Seal Sanctuary who recently moved to Courtown. People are encouraged to stay for the afternoon and enjoy some free refreshments together.
On the Sunday, the families are invited to come down to the Main Street which will be closed off with vintage cars and tractors, market live stock and the farmers’ market will all be on the street.
The spokesperson said: “We encourage people to come out, support and enjoy the event. We hope people will spread the word and come along to join us for some great craic.”
