‘Dirty water’ brings litany of complaints

‘DIRTY’ WATER has affected supplies in taps, showers and baths around Enniscorthy in the past week, with engineering staff of the local Town Council working frantically to rectify the problem.

But though he has received assurances from officials, one elected member of that body says that the problem remains, and people ‘just don’t know who to believe.’

Cllr. Jackser Owens said that he has received complaints ‘from every part of the town’ in relation to the issue of discoloured water in homes.

“I’ve seen it myself it’s a brown, dirty colour, and no-one should have to put up with it. And it’s not just one area that has been affected by the problem, but different parts of the whole town.”

Cllr. Owens says that, at the height of the problem, householders were buying water in shops, or having it filtered at home before using their supply.

He said he spoke with engineers, who assured him that the matter is being dealt with speedily, and would be rectified within days. The water had undergone testing for chlorine and was reported to be cleared of its discolouration.

“But I’m still receiving complaints today”, he told ‘The Echo’ on Monday.
