Water problems to ease in Kilmuckridge
WITH A lot of people in north Wexford suffering with water difficulties.
There is news this week that work is due to start shortly in Kilmuckridge to alleviate some of the problems.
It was announced this week that work will begin shortly to connect the Kilmuckridge Water System to the Gorey Regional Water Supply.
This will come as welcome news to a lot of residents who have been suffering with low pressure and cloudy water.
The work will involve laying a 3.4km interconnecting pipeline in the Clonevin area as well as a new tank and booster will be provided at Newtown which it is hoped will improve water pressure in that area.
Cllr. Malcolm Byrne welcomed the work: “This will mean an improved and more reliable water supply for the Kilmuckridge area.”
Discolouration of the water in the Kilmuckridge area is also being tackled and the problem has been linked to the presence of manganese in the soil. This is a problem for much of north Wexford with a large number of Gorey residents suffering from a similar problem.
Cllr. Byrne said: “We’re still trying to tackle the problem of ‘blue water’ or other discolourations.
The water is perfectly safe to drink but further measures are being taken to try to clear the problem.”
The Kilmuckridge link-up is part of a major programme of improvement to the water supply in the Gorey district which also recently saw the Ballymoney Group Water Scheme connect to the Regional Supply as well as plans for the development of new wells.
