Storytelling.

Bunclody as usual had a packed house in Sr. Aidan’s Hall for the July Storytelling.

Andy welcomed all and gave a special welcome to Mary Lambert and James Deacon after their recent hospital stays.

Get well wishes were sent to Paddy Tobin, Dermot Curran and Aidan Kelly and all the friends of Bunclody Storytelling who have been unwell recently.

The musicians were excellent and started off with music to lift your heart.

The musicians were Jack Kilbride, Martin Codd, Ned Foley, Greta Dowling, Pat Coogan and Sean Dalton, most of whom did solo acts of songs and music of their own.

The yarn spinners and monologues were from Etty Kilbride, Joe Hickey, Mary Mernagh, Breda Roche, Jim Nolan, Bob Lambert, Pat and Mary Doran, John Candy, Sean Furlong, Michael Murphy, Lily Coleman, Sheila Ronan and, of course, Andy Doyle and Kitty Mahon the Fear and Bean an Tigh.

The singers were Martin ‘Slim’ Codd, John Candy, Teresa Gordan, Alice Dunbar, Jerry Smithers, John Moulton, John Deacon, Mylers Moran, Frank Carroll, Pat Coogan, Betty Furlong, Vincent Thomas, Jim Roche and Etty Kilbride.

The helpers on the night were Margaret Morris, Alice Dunbar, Molly White, Lily Coleman, Mary Byrne and Tom Manon.

John Moran and Martin Codd were asked to give another song and monologue to finish the night and then as usual the musician brought the night to a close with a selection of music and the National Anthem.

The next storytelling takes place on Thursday August 26th, so put that date in your diary as Kitty is already looking forward to seeing you there!

Soccerscene

A BIG NUMBER of boys and girls turned up for the under-age trials last Saturday and it worked out beneficially for both coaches and managers.

There will be further trials for the different age groups in the next couple of weeks.

Adam Hogan was the lucky boy as he was drawn out to represent Bunclody Soccer club at the opening of the new Aviva Stadium on August 11th.

Ireland will play Argentina and Adam and his guardian, Jimmy Hogan, will take part in the opening ceremony and be guests at the game. It should be a great and memorable occasion.

The next Lotto draw will be held in O’Connor’s pub on Monday, 2nd August. The jackpot is now €10,400.

The Summer Camp commences on August 9th and runs to August 13th.

We hope all the children enjoy themselves.

The club would like to give its condolences to the Deacon family of Kilbranish on the passing of Frank Deacon. May he rest in peace.
