Haitian disaster
In co-operation with all local pharmacists, ‘Concern’ is holding a collection at these centres over the next two week-ends to raise funds for its work in Haiti in the wake of the earthquake disaster there, and generous public support is appealed for.
Support GROW
GROW IRELAND is the national Mental Health movement, and its annual churchgate collection in Enniscorthy takes place this week-end (Saturday and Sunday).
For anyone feeling lonely, a need to share views or simply talk, the local group meets every Tuesday night in the Riverside Park Hotel 7.30 9.30 p.m.
Blood Donor clinic
The Blood Transfusion Board’s mobile clinic will be at the Riverside Park Hotel this Sunday January 24 11.30 a.m. 3 p.m., and then during the coming week Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday 4.30 8 p.m.
Whist drive
The monthly whist drive in aid of St. Anthony’s unit CWCW takes place at the Workshop this coming Tuesday night Jan. 26 at 8 p.m. Adm. is €5, incl. tea, and top score is €40.
Sarah-Jane on T.V.
Well worth watching this Thursday night Jan. 22 (10 p.m.) is the ‘Gift of Life’ programme on TV3, with brave local woman Sarah-Jane Mitten among those featured.
SarahJane has experienced serious medical problems since birth, and last year underwent a liver transplant, but today the bright and cheery 22-year-old is in full recovery mode, to the delight of family and friends.
The inspirational programme is well worth catching.
St. Vincent de Paul
The local St. Mary’s conference is seeking an oil heater, gas cooker and washing machine, all in good working condition. If you can help, contact tel. 9233746.
Boom and bust
Burst water pipes, whether in households or public buildings, top the list as villains of the piece in water damage claims made to local insurance companies in the wake of the recent bad weather.
The firms have been inundated with claims, one local company summarising that the number of claims have ‘gone through the roof.’
Christian Unity
This year’s diocesan Week of Prayer for Christian Unity service takes place this Sunday Jan. 24 in the Church of the Most Holy Trinity in Bunclody at 7.30 p.m., everyone welcome.
Feast of St. Aidan
To mark the Feast of St. Aidan, patron saint of the Diocese, Bishop Brennan will lead a prayer service in St. Aidan’s cathedral on Sunday January 31 (7 p.m.).
Anuna concert
Re-scheduled because it was postponed due to bad weather on New Year’s Day, the Anuna concert in St. Aidan’s Cathedral will now be held on Friday March 19 next, with original tickets all valid for the new show.
Meanwhile, tickets are still available from White’s Electrical or the Town Council offices.
New book
Kilcannon Garden Centre will be the setting on January 30 next of the launch by well-known musician, Pierce Turner, of the new book by local man Michael Morrisson, whose ‘Prisoners of Words’, an insightful publication which explores what he says is the transformational power of language.
“It’s a new approach to old problems”, says the author. All interested are invited to the launch, which takes place at 11 a.m.
Musical auditions
Full-scale rehearsals get underway this Thursday for the local Musical Society’s forthcoming production in April of ‘Hello Dolly!’
They take place in Coláiste Bríde secondary school and male/female over-15s and Transition Year students are welcome to take part.

• Chairperson Tommy Levingstone says a big Thank You to each and everyone who in any way helped with the recent bag-packing fundraiser in Supervalu on behalf of his ‘Share a Dream’ organisation, which helps make dreams come true for seriously ill children. A fantastic €1,900 was realised.
• A popular local young man celebrated his 18th birthday at a function in Bellefield, in connection with which he says thanks to all for their many lovely gifts and cards. In spite of inclement weather, friends made the journey for the function from as far away as Galway and, locally, Killinick, to help Thomas O’Connor jnr. of 29 St. Aidan’s Vls. celebrate the happy occasion.
Active Retirement
The local Active Retirement’s latest meeting has been re-arranged for this coming Tuesday Jan. 26 at new venue, Astro Active sportshall at CWCW, Bellefield (access to left of Bellefield Design shop).
Membership renewals will be accepted at this meeting, and application forms for new members distributed.
The A.G.M. is on February 9 in the Riverside Park Hotel at 2.30 p.m., and nomination forms for committee will be available at the meeting on the 26th (these must be returned to secretary by Feb. 2).
The group is hosting a table quiz at Loreto Village on Jan. 278 at 2.15 p.m.
Dance time
• Irish Dancing lessons are held every Saturday morning (10.30 a.m.) at Bellefield GAA complex.
• Bellefield GAA centre is also the venue for weekly Social adult dancing (fun and fitness) session every Monday evening at 8 p.m.

MySport 10k
‘Get active, get fit, get healthy’ is the advice for anyone wishing to take part in this year’s popular MySport 10k run/walk, which is on Sunday Feb. 14th next, with all proceeds going to the Share a Dream Foundation.
It has a prizefund of €1,000, prizes for all categories and spot prizes for walkers.

Mass for Maureen
Her many friends are asked to note that the month’s mind Mass for the late Maureen Whelan (née Terry), Lr. Shannon, takes place this Sunday morning in St. Senan’s parish church at 12 noon.
RFC Lotto
There was no jackpot winner in the weekly Lotto of Enniscorthy RFC (nos. 3, 6, 7, 12), with six match-3s Delphine Richie, Martin Brauders, John Frayne, Suzanne Carthy, Linda Kehoe and Deirdre Mackey.
In the private members’ draw, George Copeland scooped the €1,000 prize; Phillip Murphy won €500; and Pat Doyle, Edermine, took the €250 prize.
And finally...
The tale of the missing scarf. But it’s no just any ordinary scarf it’s a very precious one which means/meant a lot to the owner.
The treasured item, grey in colour, was left in the D Bar at Treacy’s last Friday, and there’s a reward for its recovery.
It has a very personal history for the owner, who’s deeply upset about the loss.
