Kilrush Church Roof Restoration Fund
Tickets are now on sale for the Kilrush Parish Raffle with prize money of €2,000 and other prizes.
The raffle tickets are €50 each. Please be as generous as possible as the proceeds of the raffle will go to pay for roof replacement at St. Bridget’s Church, Kilrush. Contact Rev. Joe Power P.P., Kilrush, for details.
Sympathy. Sympathy is extended to John Ellard, Ballinavocran, Bunclody, on the death of his father, Martin, Castledockrell, who died unexpectedly last week.
Annual Patrons. The Annual Patron and Blessing of Graves will take place as follows: The Patron will take place in Bunclody on Friday July 25th with Blessing of Graves in the Old Graveyard, Chapel Road, at 7.00 p.m. and Mass and Blessing of Graves in Ryland Cemetery at 8.00 p.m.
The Blessing of Graves in Kilmyshall Churchyard will take place at 7.45 p.m. on Saturday July 26th.
G.A.A. Half-Way House / Bunclody played a 412 to 3-13 win over Tinryland in the Fourcounty Junior Football Tournament 1st semi final in Bunclody last week. Tinryland started better and got several unanswered points early in the game; they led by 1-9 to 14 points at half time. But on the resumption, H.W.H./ Bunclody clawed their way back into the game, with Mick Mahon leading the way from midfield.
Jonathan savage attacked very well from his half-back position. Ger Cowman scored a fine goal and this was followed up by another goal from David Reck. With five minutes remaining, H.W.H. / Bunclody led by 5 points. Then Tinryland scored a great goal and in the final moments of the game, they were awarded a penalty. Craig Moules made a wonderful save to win the game for H.W.H. / Bunclody. Best for H.W.H. / Bunclody were Craig Moules, Kevin Dunne, Jonathan Savage, Micheal Mahon, Arthur O’Neill and David Reck.
The final of this 4-county tournament is due to be played in the G.A.A. Park, Church Road, this evening Wednesday July 23rd at 7.30 p.m. when H.W.H. / Bunclody will play the winners of Carnew and Graiguecullen.

Thank You. The family of the late Frank Butler, Wexford, would like to express their appreciation to those who sympathised with them in their recent bereavement. Particular thanks to those who travelled to Clonard for the funeral. Frank was the father of Fr. Paul who was Curate in Kilmyshall from January 2003 to August 2005.
First Mass Celebration Fr. Harold Burman celebrated his First Mass as newly-ordained priest in Kilmyshall on Sunday July 13th. A very large congregation attended this beautiful service which was preceded by Harold being escorted to the Church by Ballindaggin Pipe Band. A large attendance of clergy, from across the county and beyond, were in attendance.
A celebratory party was held in the Parish Hall afterwards with lots of good food and wine shared by the attendance, as well as music, dancing and a slide show of Fr. Harold’s ordination in Switzerland. Congratulations to all involved in organising the event which was a huge success and which we hope will provide Fr. Harold with fond memories for years to come.
Vintage Car & Tractor Run A Vintage Car & Tractor Run will be held on Sunday July 27th, commencing from Ballindaggin and finishing at the Kilmyshall field day. Anyone interested in taking part, please call Nicky Cummins on 087 9969248. Spaces may be limited so make contact early.
Kilmyshall Field Day The Kilmyshall field day will be held on Sunday 27th July, commencing at 1.30 p.m. There is a great afternoon’s entertainment lined up with a Vintage car and tractor run, U-12 football match, Dog Show, Wheel of Fortune, Bonny Baby, Bottle Stall and lots of other attractions. Your support will be very much appreciated.
Swimming Lessons. Swimming Lessons will continue at Bunclody Swimming Pool at the Carrigduff Complex in the mornings for the month of July from 10.00 a.m. Monday to Friday. Swim week will take place at the Pool from July 23rd to July 27th. Water Safety Week is from August 4th to August 8th. Phone Denis at 087-4168831 for details.
Storytelling. The July Storytelling will take place in St. Aidan’s Hall, Irish St., Bunclody, on Thursday July 24th at 8.00 p.m. Kitty and Andy are looking forward to seeing all their friends there.
Monthly Clean-Up. Saturday July 26th is the day for the next Bunclody Tidy Towns and Bunclody Community Council Monthly Clean-up. Anyone who is available to do a litter pick on any of the approach roads is asked to meet at the Church of the Most Holy Trinity, Bunclody, or the Church of St. Mary Magdalene, Kilmyshall, at 10.00 a.m. If you plan to collect rubbish around the locality outside this time please contact Mick Kehoe at 086-8365265 to arrange to have the bags of litter collected. All help is needed to keep the area litter-free.
Whist. Whist continues every Monday night in St. Aidan’s Hall, Irish St., Bunclody, in aid of St. Teresa’s Conference St. Vincent de Paul. First deal 8.30 p.m.
G.A.A. Lotto. There was no Jackpot winner of last week’s Half-Way-House / Bunclody G.A.A. Club Lotto Draw. The numbers drawn were 1, 3, 13 and 23. Five ‘match three’ winners each receive €20. They were Kathleen O’Leary, Kathleen Gilbert, M. Kehoe, Mick Dunne and Joseph Hayes. The next draw will take place on Monday July 28th in Redmond’s, when the Jackpot will be €12,000.
Coiste na nÓg. H.W.H./Bunclody went down to Naomh Eanna last Wednesday in the Under-10 Kent Stainless Steel competition on a scoreline of 7-10 to 3-8.
Adam White, Lee Conroy and Eddie Black each got a goal; John Dunne 2 points and Adam Daly 8 points. Thanks to all who supported the young lads. They play Ballygarrett in Bunclody this evening, Wednesday July 23rd, at 7.00.
In the 1st round of the Under 12s’ O’Loughlin tournament, H.W.H./Bunclody 3-7 to Myshall 4-9. Cormac Kelly scored 2-2, Padraig Sinnott 1-3, Billy Kelly and Shane Doyle 1 point each. Carnew 1-10, St Pats 3-2. There are no fixtures yet for next week due to other matches.
The Club’s under 16 hurlers played Our Lady’s Island / St. Fintan’s on Monday last. At one stage during the match HWH/Bunclody were down by 10 points but came back in a highlyentertaining game but eventually lost out on a scoreline of 3-11 to 6-8. Scorers were Adrian Hendrick 1-7, Aidan Nolan 1-2, Owen Carton 1-1, Ciaran Skelton 0-1.
H.W.H./Bunclody Minor hurlers got their Championship campaign off to a winning start in a very keenly-contested match against St. Pat’s in Camolin. They won by a margin of 3-10 to 2-11.
Scorers for H.W.H./Bunclody were captain Doc O’Connell 1-2, substitute goalie, John Byrne 1-1, Enda Murphy 1-0, Johnny O’Connor, Mikes O’Connor & Johnny ‘hickey’ O’Connor 2 points each, Michael ‘Baldy’ O’Connor 1 point. This was a fantastic spirited performance by the lads whose next game is at home to Clonard on 31st July at 7.30pm.
Eileen Aroon Festival 2008
Crowning Of Festival Queen. The 2008 Festival Queen will be selected at a function in M2 on Wednesday July 23rd. The on-stage interviews of seven young ladies in the Festival Queen competition will include, for the second year, a Best Escort competition which proved immensely popular last year. The Crowning of the Festival Queen will be followed by music and dancing in M2.
Pub Talent. The Annual Eileen Aroon Pub Talent Competition continues in, The Millrace Hotel on Friday 25th, The Moss House on Monday July 28th and Kehoe’s on Thursday July 31st. The competition starts at 10.30 p.m. each night, but patrons are advised to be in early in order to get the best seats.
Ladies’ Makeover And Fashion Show. The Ladies’ Makeover Extravaganza and Fashion Show will be held in The Carlton Millrace Hotel on Thursday July 31st at 8.30 p.m. This year’s event will feature three local ladies being transformed by a Colour Me Beautiful expert and a Fashion Show featuring clothes from Elegance boutiques in both Bunclody and Enniscorthy.
Opportunities to consult with hair stylists and beauticians and skin consultants will also be available to those in attendance. Admission is €10 and can be paid at the door or tickets are available from Festival Committee members.
Dog Show. The Eileen Aroon Festival / Red Mill’s Dog Show will take place at the Carrigduff Complex on this Saturday July 26th at 2.30 p.m. There will be both Open and Confined sections. Contact 086-0829782 for details.
Children’s Entertainment. Bunclody Library will host a Rhythm & Racket Music Workshop on Saturday July 26th. Booking essential. Contact Trish or Marie at 053-9375466.
On Sunday July 27th the Carlton Millrace Hotel will be the venue for Spring Onion Puppet Theatre’s production of Androcles and the Lion Puppet Show at 3.00 p.m. This event promises to be a fun puppet show for all those young and young at heart! Admission €5.
Pub Quiz. The third round of the Pub Quiz will take place in Redmond’s, Kehoe’s and Lennon’s on Thursday July 24th. The Pub Quiz Final will take place on Tuesday July 29th at 10.00 p.m. Venue will be announced on Thursday night after the 3rd round.
Pub Theatre. Bunclody / Kilmyshall Drama Group will present their annual Pub Theatre in two more venues this weekend. This specially written script is anticipated with a mixture of joy and trepidation by viewers who know that Niall O Muiri’s script will always be entertaining, but as the actors are encouraged to ad lib, audience members look out, you could be the star of this year’s production! You can catch the Pub Theatre in Redmond’s on Saturday 26th and Kehoe’s on Sunday July 27th.
Music On The Square. Bands who will play at Market Square as part of the 2008 Festival include The Groove Band on Wednesday 23rd; Just Magic on Thursday 24th; Stephen Murphy & Band on Friday 25th (after the Annual Patron), Big Deal on Saturday 26th and, on Sunday July 27th, Fran & Dave will be on Stage at 4.00 p.m. followed at 8.30 p.m. by Studio 5. Monday will see two young rock bands take to the stage with Stereotrash taking the stage at 8.00 p.m. followed at 9.00 p.m. by Down & Out.
Fireworks. The second Annual Fireworks’ Display over Bunclody town will take place on Sunday July 27th at 10.30 p.m. This spectacular event proved immensely popular last year and it is hoped that as many people as possible will come out to view the stunning display.
Dog Show. The Connolly’s Red Mills Dog Show will be held at the Swimming Pool Complex, Carrigduff, on this Saturday, July 26th. There will be both Open and Confined Sections. For information contact 0860829782.
Battle Of The Bands. The Battle of the Bands was held in M2 on Thursday last with five bands taking part. They were Rogues Robert Doyle, Bernard Steemers, Richard Breen and James Doyle; Trademark Bobby Redmond, Robert Doyle, James Doyle and David Roberts; Stereotrash Richard Breen, Bernard Steemers, Harry Moore and Jamie Murphy; Down & Out Eddie Warren, Jack Crean, Charlie Crean and Nevin Buckley and Emptyhead Cathal Redmond, Michael Pender and Brian Steemers.
The winners in the Junior Section were Stereotrash, while Down & Out took first place in the Senior Section. Both teams will be on stage at Market Sq. on Monday July 28th from 8.00 p.m. Congratulations to both bands on their win and well done to the other three for making such great rock music and providing such fantastic entertainment. Well done too to Dean Redmond who organised the event.
Car Treasure Hunt. Winners of the Eileen Aroon Festival / O’Leary’s Esso Service Station Car Treasure Hunt were 1st Frank Murphy; 2nd Katie McLoughlin; 3rd Maeve Martin. Congratulations and well done to all who participated in this year’s event which was up to the usual high standard.
